Maintenance Technician

Keep our homes safe, functional, and well maintained.
About the Position
Stronger Roots is seeking an experienced, dependable full-time Maintenance Technician to manage maintenance needs across multiple residential properties throughout Solano and Napa Counties.
Stronger Roots provides housing and supportive services to individuals experiencing homelessness, behavioral health challenges, substance use recovery needs, medical challenges, and other barriers to stability. Our Maintenance Technician is an integral part of our team and helps keep our homes safe, functional, and well maintained.
Responsibilities
- Manage maintenance needs across multiple residential properties and independently prioritize daily work orders.
- Perform general residential maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance.
- Complete common plumbing, drywall, painting, carpentry, flooring, appliance, fencing, fixture, landscaping, and other household/property repairs.
- Maintain property exteriors, including lawns, trimming, cleanup, pest/vector-control prevention, and general upkeep.
- Conduct property inspections, identify maintenance or safety concerns, and address problems before they become larger repairs.
- Coordinate with outside vendors or licensed contractors when work requires specialized services.
- Manage electronic work orders, document completed work, upload photos when required, and communicate repair needs to management.
- Pick up parts, materials, supplies, food, equipment, or other organizational items when needed.
- Respond to urgent maintenance needs and assist with reasonable operational tasks when the organization needs additional support.
What We're Looking For
We need someone who works independently, stays productive, manages their time well, and gets the job done without constant supervision.
Because this position works inside occupied residential homes, professional boundaries are essential. You must remain focused on assigned work, avoid unnecessary personal involvement or socializing with residents, respect resident privacy, and redirect non-maintenance concerns to appropriate Stronger Roots staff.
You must be comfortable working professionally around individuals who may be experiencing mental health, behavioral, emotional, or substance-use-related challenges.
Requirements
- Previous experience managing maintenance responsibilities across multiple residential properties or locations is required.
- Prior professional experience in residential maintenance, handyman work, construction, facilities maintenance, property maintenance, or a similar field.
- Working knowledge of common residential repairs and safe use of hand and power tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot problems, prioritize work orders, and independently manage your daily workload.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Reliable transportation to report to work. A company vehicle will be provided for authorized work-related travel.
- Ability to travel regularly throughout Solano and Napa Counties.
- Ability to use a smartphone or computer for work orders, email, photos, and documentation.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, sufficient to understand work orders and safety instructions, communicate with staff and residents, and document completed work.
- Ability to perform physical maintenance work, including lifting and moving materials, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders, and working indoors and outdoors.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
- Must successfully complete required employment screening.
Schedule & On-Call Availability
This is a full-time, field-based position that may occasionally require after-hours, evening, late-night, weekend, or on-call work when an urgent property or maintenance issue occurs.
Applicants who live in or near Solano County are preferred due to the need for timely response to occasional after-hours maintenance emergencies.
Employees will be compensated for all hours worked, including applicable overtime, in accordance with California wage-and-hour requirements.
A Note on the Role
This is not a position where every task will be handed to you step-by-step. Some days will consist primarily of repairs and preventative maintenance. Other days may include picking up supplies, moving equipment, preparing a property, or helping another department with an immediate operational need.
We are looking for someone who takes ownership of their work, moves with purpose, and understands that keeping our properties operating properly is an important part of supporting the people we serve.
